f11 Photography Magazine | January 2013
1st January 2013
Happy New Year and a very warm welcome to Issue 12 of our Chasing the Light Magazine. I do hope that your holiday season is going with a proverbial swing, and that you’re finding time to flex your photographic muscles and capture some great shots. In any case, we’ve got plenty of goodies in this edition that should fire up your creative juices!
David provides his usual Compositional Tutorial, this time revisiting that golden oldie – the rule of thirds. Such a vital compositional tool, it is to be ignored at your peril, and here he visits Burma, England, Italy and Bolivia in his quest for the perfect shot. This month’s Field Trial continues with Part 3 of David’s Soft Wear for Harsh Climes series. For Stepping Back, David follows my previous articles on publishing with some reflections of his own on the subject, revisiting the time he spent writing his first book on the beautiful island of La Digue. We’ve got another of our popular video tutorials and the Members' Gallery, with constructive comments from David on your own work.
From other contributors we have Part One of a superb review on the intricacies of Auto Focus systems from Garry Ridsdale. And we embrace the world of macro with this month’s Guest Feature from Ross Hoddinott. Close-up work is perfect for this time of year when the weather for landscapes may not be at its most conducive, and Ross offers a great introduction to the craft with an emphasis on winter shots.
To all our f11 Members, we hope you’re enjoying the ride, but we need your pictures. If you fancy being featured in the Member’s gallery send us an email with three low-res jpegs and the story from behind the lens. We’ll look forward to hearing from you.
And for those of you who are not yet an f11 member, take a look at the benefits of f11 membership here . By joining, you’ll receive full access to the monthly edition of our magazine, as well as other goodies.
