f11 Photography Magazine | January 2020
31st December 2019
Flying high into a new decade with the f11 Photography Magazine, and I kick off this month’s edition, Issue 96, Behind the Lens in West Africa photographing the locals in chaotic, bustling, vibrant Dakar, where I also Field Trial the latest fast glass that Canon claims is the ultimate portrait lens. Then in the Opinion slot I wonder whether the art of composition is entirely intuitive, while this month’s Post-Production Videos deconstructs the processing of a high contrast seascape. I then in Stepping Back recall an evocative Christmas on the Isle of Skye.
We stay in the Hebrides as Guest Columnist Ruth Grindrod reveals her favourite locations on the Isle of Harris and Lewis, which has become an increasingly popular destination for photographers, with good reason. Staying north for our Guest Feature Ailsa McWhinnie talks to Scottish photographer Sophie Gerrard about her fascination with the people and landscape that makes up her home country. And then we turn the Spotlight on f11 Member Andrew Moore as he roams the streets of London at night, before turning our attention to the Members' Gallery, where this month we feature some perceptively observed images from our f11 Members.
To our new f11s who have joined over the Festive Season; welcome! We look forward to hearing from you and featuring your images in the Members' Gallery. And to all of you we here in the f11 office wish you a Happy New Year. I hope many exciting and interesting photographic experiences come your way in the new decade. Rest assured we’ll do our best to keep you motivated, inspired and informed.
