How It's Done
David Noton heads into the colourful fields of Umbria to sate his poppy addiction.
We’ve just arrived. The drive from Garfagnana (see last month’s issue) took longer than expected, then Raffo plied us with pasta and wine, then we had to get pitch the tent, then a quick eyelid inspection was called for; now the sun is sinking to the north-west and I really should expose some pixels. To achieve something photographically on the first evening back in Umbria would be satisfying. But where to head? (see “Behind the Lens; Return to Preci” in this issue) I feel the need for a quick hit of poppies in my viewfinder, so I think I’ll just grab a camera and trudge down a country lane to see what colour there is in the fields surrounding us. If in doubt utilise what lies on your doorstep. It usually works for me.
