Wendy's Wanderings

Notre Dame

Wendy Noton reflects on the poignancy of the recent Notre Dame fire.

The fire at Notre Dame on 15 April 2019 moved me beyond measure, but as a non-Parisian I was unsure why this was so. Then I remembered the images David made in April 2014 when we were there celebrating our (27th) wedding anniversary (I know, work and play have always been linked!). He got me to walk up and down, up and down as dusk fell. “Is it time for an aperitif yet?” I asked, but still; more up and down, up and down as the lights on Île de la Cité came on and Our Lady of the 4th arrondissement increasingly dominated the scene. (so Romantic!).
