Blurry People - Part Two: Cities


David Noton on why cityscapes need blurry people.

Consider this picture of Montmarte at night. Would it be half as evocative without the blurry figures? They suggest life, bustle, activity, atmosphere; without them the empty street would just look sterile. And Montmarte is not sterile. Cities are all about the people who live and work in them just as much as the architecture and monuments which define them.
