Blurry People - Part One: Landscapes

David Noton considers how and why a landscape can be transformed by the inclusion of a human figure.

It’s probably the last week of autumn. The colours in Crendle Woods are at their best, but strong winds are forecast over the weekend. It’s mid-November after all; winter can’t be delayed much longer. In which case we’d best make the most of this woodland wonder. The we in question is f11 Your Vision Portfolio Winner Josh Cooper and I. Josh has opted to spend his prize day on my home patch, and asked to concentrate not on big sweeping views, but closer, in his words more intimate, studies. Fine by me, but what does that mean in practise? Walking into the woods and endeavouring to see pictures I reckon. It’s one of the most difficult things to do.
