Guest Columnist - Tracy Calder

It's all in the Mind

In the first of a series on how to open up to creativity, our new columnist Tracy Calder discusses how to quieten down the monkey chatter.

When you take a picture, you are never truly alone. You might be standing at the base of a mountain with no one else around, but there is always a little monkey sitting on your shoulder. Sometimes the monkey whispers in your ear and you barely notice it’s there, but most of the time it shouts incessantly. The things it says are almost always judgmental, ‘It really wasn’t worth getting up at 5am,’ it mocks. ‘The sunrise is going to be rubbish and you are just wasting your time.’ ‘Don’t you know how to adjust the white balance on this camera yet?’ it chides. ‘You’re never going to get the hang of this.’
