Hoddinott's Hangout

Butterflies

My alarm sounds. I grumpily hit the ‘off’ button. It’s too early, and I’m just not ready to get up. 5am is an ungodly hour by anyone’s standards, but the forecast for this morning is good: clear and still. I force myself out of bed, sling on my outdoor clothes, and grab my camera backpack as I creep quietly out the house – I won’t be popular if I wake up my wife, Fliss, or the kids.

I’m not chasing a colourful sunrise or a golden-hour landscape today. Instead I’m on the look-out for butterflies. So why such an early alarm call? Well, just like me, they don’t like waking up early either. And you know what they say about the early bird.
