Stepping Back

Milford Sound

February 1999: Rain, in biblical proportions, had been falling since we arrived. No surprise there. With a mean annual rainfall of 6,813mm on 182 days a year, Milford Sound is known as the wettest place in New Zealand, and one of the wettest in the world. Given this undeniable fact, I've always found it strange that the Kiwis knock the British weather so much; it’s a sport they seem to enjoy as much as rugby. I guess very few of them live anywhere near Fjordland National Park.
