Stepping Back

Last Night

Last night I lost my wife to Captain Poldark, again. I've been aware that something has been going on for the last four weeks. He's always riding along the cliff tops or cutting grass with his shirt off, and Wendy is clearly smitten. But I'm not jealous; she is not alone methinks, and besides, Demelza's attractions are growing on me.

But Wendy's infatuation isn't really about him. Maybe I'm kidding myself, but I think I've been replaced, not by a dark haired, sultry actor 26 years my junior, but by the setting. Aidan Turner may have caught the eye of half the women in the realm, but it’s the Cornish scenery that is simply irresistible. And on that score I have to admit I'm smitten too, hopelessly.
