Exposure - Part 10: Big Number, Small Hole
The picture above was shot at 1/6 sec at f22. I know that from the metadata embedded in all digital images, but by just looking at the image I would have been able to make an educated guess somewhere around those exposure values if pushed. It’s obvious from the blur of the Mistral-blown lavender and the depth of field, isn’t it?
Time was, of course, when it wasn’t so obvious; an old friend recently reminded me of how I used to diligently jot down every exposure setting for every shot in a notebook. We’re only going back 35 years, you understand. Back then I was still learning which shutter speeds and apertures were appropriate for different situations. Now it’s all second nature – I barely register thinking about it.
